After years of intermittent teaching at Salt Lake City Council House, the university was founded in 1867 under the direction of David O. Calder, followed by John R. Park in 1869. The university moved from council house in 1876 to the Union Academy building and in 1884 to Union Square. In 1892, the name of the University of Utah school was changed, and John R. Park began acquiring land belonging to the U.S. Army`s Fort Douglas on the eastern bench of the Salt Lake Valley, where the university permanently moved in 1900. Over the years, the university was allocated additional land from Fort Douglas and the fort was officially closed on October 26, 1991. [40] After his death in 1900, Dr. John R. Park bequeathed all his estate to the university. [1] [41] The college walking group, known as Pride of Utah,[143] performs at all home games as well as at some away games and bowl games.

[133] A Data Use Agreement (AEA) is a contract that sets out the conditions for the transmission of research data between the university and another institution or company. In March 2012, the university received unanimous approval from the Board of Directors for the creation of a new university, the School of Dentistry, which is the university`s first new university in sixty years. [34] [35] In addition, the University`s College honors was audited from 100 major national honor colleges in the United States[36] In 2015, the university helped open the Ensign College of Public Health in Kpong, Ghana. [52] In the fall of 2019, there were 24,485 students and 8,333 PhD students, for a total of 32,818 enrollments, making it the second largest public university in the state after Utah Valley University.
